FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What sets your tour company apart from others and why should I book with OLS?

OLS is a locally owned company. There is a good chance when you call or email you will be speaking with the owner who was born and raised on PEI. This gives us local knowledge of routes, accommodations, points of interest, restaurants and unique relationships that are difficult to replicate from a tour operator based outside PEI.
OLS is a bicycle shop which means we have access to the best bicycles available. Our rental bikes are replaced at the beginning of each rental season and are tuned up after each rental by our certified on site bike mechanics to ensure a perfect ride!
In addition, OLS provides the most detailed maps but also includes GPX Files which provides turn by turn directions similar to a car GPS. This ensure you get to each nights accommodations stress free and do not miss any points of interest along the way.

Can you custom create a tour if I do not see one that I like?

Yes! Send us the details of what you would like and we will create a tour just for you.

What do I need to rent a bike?

Rentals require one piece government issued photo ID (passport or drivers license) and a valid credit card.

What is included with the rental?

Our rentals include locks, helmets, maps, water bottle cage, rear panier rack, repair kit with spare tube, tools, pump and patches. Additional items available for rent include panier bags, bike trailers / strollers, insurance, car racks, handle bar bags, clip in pedals. If there is something else you require that isn’t listed please contact us. I’m sure we can help you out!

Where is the store located?

We are located at 330 University Avenue; a short 15 min walk from the Charlottetown Seaport, a 10 minute drive from the Charlottetown Airport and 3 blocks from the nearest entrance to the Confederation Trail.

What is your cancellation policy?

All deposits are non-refundable.  In the unlikely event of cancellation we will work with you to reschedule and find alternate dates.

Can I use a road bike on the Confederation Trail?

We do not recommend this. We suggest our touring hybrid or a cycle cross bike. The Confederation Trail is crushed gravel and road bike tires do not work well on this surface.

Will my cell phone work on the Trail / Island?

Cell coverage is very good throughout PEI and on the Confederation Trail with very few areas with no service.

What size panier bags do you rent?

We use a 25 litre pair of panier bags

Can we add additional bags to our rental ?

Yes! We rent trunk bags and handle bar bags.

What is the sales tax on PEI?

PEI has a 15% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) tax that is added to all prices.

Can I return a bike after the store hours?

Absolutely!  We offer an after hours service for an extra charge of $10 per person / per bike with a minimum charge of $25.
*If your are planning to use this service we recommend  to call ahead so we can set up a mutually convenient pick up time.

Can OLS book additional nights accommodations prior to or after our cycling tour?

Yes! OLS can book additional nights prior to, or after, your cycling tour. We would be happy to make recommendations on best accommodations and areas to stay.

Can we camp instead of staying in hotels and B&B’s?

Yes. Some of our tours can be adjusted to accommodate camping. Contact us for this request.

How long does it take to size our bikes and start our tour?

Please allow approximately 20 minutes to size your bikes, go over the tour details and to set up your GPX files.

What if my bike breaks?

Our rental bikes are brand new at the start of every season and are tuned up by our certified bike mechanics after each rental. This greatly reduces the likelihood of you having an issue with our bikes. In the unlikely event of a breakdown, we provide you with all the necessary tools in your repair kit to fix most common repairs. In the event you require more assistance than this we can send a mechanic to you to make repairs on site. These repairs would be an additional charge.

Can we store luggage with you while we are on our tour?

Yes. If you book a tour with OLS we do offer free storage of your (reasonable amount) of luggage.

Once I book my tour can I make changes to the tour or accommodations?

Of course! This is your tour. You can make as many changes as you want to the tour and accommodations until you are completely satisfied with the tour. This includes switching to a different tour if you are not completely satisfied with the tour you initially select.

How do I start the booking process?

If you are ready to start the booking process or if you have questions on which tour you should select call or email us; we will be happy to assist!
